If you decide to forgo a traditional gift registry and would rather receive money as gifts, make sure you give the money a purpose. When you don’t have the money earmarked for as specific purpose, it’s very easy to use it for other things and watch as it dwindles without really doing anything meaningful with it.

Whether it goes toward a down payment for a new house, a car, home furnishings or the honeymoon, give it a specific job to get the most out of it.
